Wild vs. domestic
There are two kinds of rabbits that you may come across. One is a domestic rabbit, which is the one you can adopt as a pet. The other is the wild rabbit, Rabbits or Cottontails living outdoors.
They can be hard to tell apart if you don't have a researched and while you think to save abandoned baby Bunny, you could be causing his death if he brings to retain. They are of extremely high stress, and can be easily frightened by death.
Cottontails can reproduce almost year round. Mama will dig a shallow pit and line with plant material and her fur which she pulls out. She will visit her children once or twice a day, at morning early and late in the evening to feed them. She will take care of them and leave them and nest detection from predators protection quickly. Children will nurse only for 2-3 weeks, as opposed to requiring domestic rabbit MOM for about 2 months. Cottontail mothers milk is very rich and mature children more quickly and are on their own for about 4 weeks. Contrary to popular belief, the mother will not reject her kids if contact with people.
