University of Mumbai (formerly known as Bombay University) is one of the oldest and leading universities in India. It was founded in 1857, rendered "Wood's Education Destinations", and this is one of the first three Universities in India.

As a sequel to the renaming of the city of Bombay in Mumbai, the name of the University has been changed from "University of Bombay" to "University of Mumbai", see the notification issued by the Government of Maharashtra and published in the Government Gazette of September 4, 1996.

The profile of this University carved out in 150 years of its operation, is evidence of its many achievements as the intellectual and moral power of society. The University has always given best in the country in general and Mumbai in particular enthusiastically shoulders ever-growing load of social values ​​and opportunities.

Initially, the university has focused on the control of teaching in undergraduate level and in conducting examinations.
