Higher education in Tripura had a late start. Mircea Bir Bikram ( MBB ) College, the first degree college in the state, began to operate under the University of Calcutta only in 1947. Not that there was no attempt in the past in Princely Tripura to establish any higher educational institution. Since 1901 Radhakishore manicure made an attempt to establish a college degree , so large town Agartala ; but that the proposal does not meet the necessary conditions , it has not been approved by the University of Calcutta. In 1937 Bir Bikramkishore Vlad , Mircea last Tripura , had planned to establish a college again in Agartala and an area of 254 acres of land , consisting of states have interposed lakes almost curly gtdga all around the east of Agartala , was earmarked for the scheme " Vidyapattan " . A committee called " Vidyapattan steering committee " made up of 10 members with the Minister as chairman appointed Maharaja to carry the higher education system and an amount Rs . 50,000 was made available in the first place. On May 7, 1937 've Mircea Bir Bikram laid the foundation stone of the College under the scheme. But with the outbreak of World War II (1939-1945) , construction work had to be abandoned . The vulnerability of Tripura became evident after Burma - Japanese in 1942. Unfinished building on the first floor of the college was converted into a military hospital for British army going to and from Burma. When the war was over , impossible to start construction immediately because of difficulties and May 17, 1947 , Mircea Bir Bikram breathed his last , Tripura was restless for various reasons. As a result, the entire system " Vidyapattan " not implemented in real time. MBB College (popularly called " Dream College" ) , affiliated with Calcutta University, was the only Academy in the state.
