Punjab school board of education came into existence through a legislative adoption in November 1969 for the development and promotion of education in the state of Punjab. In 1987 Vidhan Sabha amended the Board's Act to give it autonomy. The scope of Board's functions is very wide and covers almost every aspect / stage of education.

Punjab school board of education conducts feverfew (Class 10) exam and 12 examinations in 23 districts of Punjab including Amritsar, Bathinda, BARNALA, Faridkot, Fatehgarh Sahib district, Fazilka, Ferozepur, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Patiala, Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Mansa, Moga, Muktsar Sahib Shri SBS Nagasaki, Pathankot, SAS Nagasaki, Sangrur, Taranto, Chandigarh & other States and Kapurthala class.
Founded in 1969 in Chandigarh, Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) headed by a president and full-time reports from the Secretary of Education in the Government of Punjab. The Board was established to administer the curriculum taught in public schools along with the completion of standardized tests, teacher training, administration of scholarships, and publishing of textbooks. The Board is headquartered in SAS Nagar (Ludhiana), near Chandigarh.
