Gujarat government allocated Rs. 100 crores for the renewal of the infrastructure of universities in the state. The decision was taken by all the registrars of the state.
Department of Higher Education held a meeting with loggers eight universities and the government was informed that the University Grants Commission allocated funds for the construction of new buildings but renovation and repair occurred between a backseat in the budget.
Therefore, the state government formed a committee with representatives from the University of Gujarat, Saurashtra University and MS University. The Committee will also have the education secretary and finance secretary as members. The government has said that the Committee will scan each proposal and the funds earmarked Rs 100 crore.
The allocated funds will be used before March 31, 2015. Officials said that much less work orders must be issued before 31 March.
The government made it clear that there would be no approval for maintenance of gardens and fountains under this grant.
The next committee meeting is scheduled for Tuesday.
