CBSE adopts preventive measures to stop child abuse

With increasing reports of child abuse, Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) announced new measures to take to make it safe for local students of all affiliated schools. Schools install CCTV cameras, form committees and train teachers to monitor and control any conduct by faculty or staff.

"Teachers, management and all employees of the institutions should be aware of the provisions of the law, some of which involves being vigilant and report cases of child abuse, such as sections 19 (I) and 21," said Sharma Rama, public relations officer, CBSE.

CBSE has taken the initiative to train teachers to be gender sensitive and closely monitor some signs of child abuse. 23 more modules have been prepared for trainers under the scheme continuous comprehensive evaluation (CCE) where the coaches will give an overview of the growing issues, manage emotions, gender, social and other issues of discrimination.

Schools will be provided with suggestion boxes so that students can make complaints and give their own suggestions. "The Commission will help to take immediate action in cases of child abuse," he added.
The directors of the different schools of thought that these measures will be safer and easier to adopt for students and school authorities. "Since the role of the school has been clearly defined, we can follow them correctly. Many of these are already in place in our school," said Avnita Bir, principal, RN Prune International School, Santacruz.
