CSI Madhya Kerala Diocese had an excellent opportunity to defend the great tradition of the Church Missionary Society in the field of education in 1964, when the Government of Kerala declared the need to start college in the state. MM Bishop John, then bishop of the diocese, made the big decision to start a new college in the southern part of the diocese. His historic decision was seen as divine intervention to defend Christian values in a changing world. He called the College Bishop Moore College, in honor of the late Rt. Rev. Edward Alfred Livingstone Moore, the fourth Anglican Bishop of the Diocese of Travancore-Cochin.
John m. M. Bishop instructed the challenge of establishing a college in the safe hands of the Reverend Professor Mathew Casey. Aachen team 19 teachers and 2 teachers did not start this Herculean task of building this great institution. The first group consisted of the Reverend Professor KC Mathew, professor m. K. Cherian, Professor Ninan Koshy, Rev. Professor Itty Mathew, Professor George. Cherian m., Professor Elizabeth Mathew, Professor Anna Varghese, Professor John VC, Professor K. George, Professor KP Annamma, Mrs. Joseph Thundiyil, Mrs. Helen David, the Reverend Professor Thomas Ninan, Professor TJPhilip, Rev. PJ Varghese, Professor Janardhanan Pillai, Professor Venketachalam, Professor K.Ch.Dzheykob and Mr. George Varghese among faculty and because Mr. Mata and Mr.K.I. Cherian, among the faculty room. The College has a very humble beginning with classes for the first packet, starting with a thatched barn, made of coconut leaves. The place where there is a college called Kallumala (mount rocks), which was formerly a cemetery, now transformed into one of the best training center in Kerala.
The founding fathers of college students admitted without any discrimination based on religion. The merits and suitability was the sole criterion for the selection of staff at the time. Observe the rights of conscience of all. Particular attention was paid to the educational back section of the issue of recognition. It was the ardent desire of the founders of students within its walls, and other portals leaving college to be patriots and must develop a genuine sense of service to the nation.
Bishop Moore College came to form Kallumala, Mavelikare in Alapuzha district of Kerala. It was started in 1964 as a college, providing services to two years of pre-university course of the University of Kerala. The founders of the college were only words of St. Mathew chapter 5, verse 14 & 15 ("you-light of the world. A city set on a hill can not be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it in a basket, but on a stand lamp, and light to all, someone in the house ") to express their vision of the college Mavelikare.
